Speed Wireframing a Click-Through Prototype using Symbols

There's so many ways to use Mockups. I rarely do click-through prototypes, but if I have to, then I count on Symbols and links to make it painless.

This speed-wireframing video shows you how to:

  1. set up a menu (linkbar in this example) and create a symbol from it
  2. place instances of the symbol in all of a project's wireframes
  3. override the symbol instances to show selected link
  4. edit the original symbol to set the links and update all the instances
  5. and then demonstrate it

It's quick and easy. Want to know more about how to do it? Ask us!

Tip: Creating Linkable Whole Symbols Using Nested Groups

This is a tip for Mockups for heavy users of symbols, that shows you how to make an entire set of objects in a symbol linkable.

While doing support this week, someone pointed out that it's not easy to just link a symbol that's a combination of elements, and wrote that they had to overlay a transparent object to make the symbol a link. While you can do it this way, there is an easier way.

Groups support links. So essentially all you have to do to make your entire symbol a link is to nest the elements in the symbol in a parent, containing group. It sounds a little complicated, but it really isn't. This video demo shows you how. (Apologies for the occasional rough audio.)

Give it a try. Hope this helps.
